If you are a crafting newbie, or a seamstress by profession, it’s not easy to buy the fabric you want if you are new in the neighborhood. This was how it was for me back in the days, I didn’t know where to buy fabrics or any other crafting materials then. But because we lived near the Mariahilferstrasse, it became summer’s walking route – and I discovered Komolka. Nowadays, one can buy everything online, you can even get samples first before committing to buy a yards.Yet getting to touch the fabric, seeing the colors in-person is a much different experience.
You can compare all the flannel, fleece, organza, canvas, linen, vinyl, chiffon, and lightweight decor cloth, as well as outdoor and utility fabrics. You can get what you need for your drapery, tablecloths, placemats, pillow shams, lampshades, and other projects. Most of all, you can match the colors while at the store.
Vienna has a lot of fabric stores you probably haven’t discovered yet. While there are a lot of Dance clothing shops in Vienna, but in case you can’t find that specific one in the stores, you’re sure to find fabrics you can use to create a costume or two. Yep, making your cosplay costumes for Aninite and such is easy with all the fabrics stores around. And if you have a lot of time (which probably most of us have right now) here’s some you can visit to get a look at or buy stuff for your next project.
Textil-Müller
While not as big as the main shop in Kritzendorf, Textil-Müller at the 6th district has a wide-range of inventory that’s also better organized.

Komolka
As mentioned, Komolka was the first fabric store I’ve known when I arrived in Vienna. My first needles, spools of thread, and other sewing materials were bought here. At one point, I couldn’t get a peach dress for my daughter for a friend’s wedding. So I made her one, having all the items from Komolka.

Jungmann Wilhelm & Neffe
One of Vienna’s picturesque shops at the first district, Jungmann Wilhelm & Neffe is probably older than your great-grandfather. It is a shop for fine fabrics, with an inventory that’s almost unchanged since 1880. The interior transports you back to those days, nostalgic and elegant.I’ve often taken pictures of those umbrellas by the window in different seasons and times, it’s a different feel every time. They also sell beautiful accessories as neckties, bow ties and handkerchiefs.
Die Stoffschwester
One of the most loved fabric shops in Vienna, Die Stoffschwester also delivers your online orders. They have a wide selection of cloths and whatever you need for sewing.

A little far off the city center, this fabric store has really good reviews on their facebook page, you will be curious not to visit their shop. A lot of different fabrics for you to select on, as this ecke (corner) in the photos shows the many colorful ones to choose from.

Stoffkeller’s Facebook description reads: “Beautiful fabrics for big and small. We are a family business and have been in the fabric industry for 50 years and 2 generations. Their fast delivery, along with competently priced products seem to be the reasons people come buying back.

One of the more beautifully arranged fabric store in the city is Eurostoff. Their prices are also seen to be in the affordable range, and fabrics are of good quality.

Guate Stoffe
“We sell textile handicrafts from the magical highlands of Guatemala. We sell hand-woven cotton fabrics, which are mainly used in bedspreads, hammocks, scarves, kitchen gloves and bags of all kinds.” Probably the most vibrant fabric store there is in Vienna, Guate Stoffe does reflect the culture of Guatemala. Many of its customers express satisfaction and love for their products.

One of Vienna’s oldest fabric shops, the story and motto on their website says: “Our company has existed since 1963. This shop describes themselves as “your favorite fabric store in Vienna.” We are the patchwork shop, fabric shop, wool shop in Vienna with over 3000 cotton fabrics, jersey fabrics. True enough, the testimonies and reviews on their page are nothing but recommendations to visit and buy the products. The shop has grown over the years, and that’s why you can find anything you need here.
