Exploring Vienna-Praterstern

Vienna’s Praterstern (Prater star) area is a vibrant and diverse plaza located in the 2nd district (Leopoldstadt) of Vienna, Austria. It serves as a major transportation hub and is known for its lively atmosphere, rich history, and variety of attractions. The Praterstern is technically a square, which today takes the form of a traffic circle. It is formed by the convergence of seven streets namely Praterstraße, Heinestraße, Nordbahnstraße, Ausstellungsstraße, Prater Hauptallee, Lasallestraße, and Franzensbrückenstraße.

A monument of Austrian admiral Tegetthoff dominates the square next to the Vienna Praterstern railroad station. Before the Favoriten interchange was built, Praterstern is the largest traffic circle in Vienna.

Vienna’s Praterstern Station is located near the famous Prater amusement park and other attractions. Underground lines U1 and U2 crosses the Praterstern station along with Öbb lines headed into and outside of Vienna. Here are some things you can do:

I was tempted to place this under “Where to eat” but munching on sweets is just a bonus when in the Prater.

Visitors can learn about chocolate’s history, geography, biology, art and production, nutritional value, and other topics by playing interactive games and visiting stations. They offer free tastings of freshly prepared cocoa beans and many types of chocolate. There are also workshops that small kids can join in, not chocolate-making but working on already made sweets.
