IKEA for us is more than just a furniture store. It’s a trip where we enjoy looking for things, not really needed but actually used when we’re home. For example, we have a lint rollers but when you see that a bundle of them costs 3,50, you just pick and throw it in your cart. Yeah, IKEA is one of those stores you won’t get out not buying anything.
Hus, as named, is the greenest IKEA in Vienna, perhaps the greenest building too (parks in Vienna are abundant so there’s relatively a lot of greens).
Sustainability
The 18,000m2 store is noticeably different from the usual blue box we’re used to exploring. The building was designed by local Austrian architects Querkraft, installed with solar panels and hyper-efficient heating and cooling systems. There are 160 trees within the building and on the rooftop (in adorable giant pots) making it not only easy on the eyes but also cooler in summer.
7 Floors
Easy City Location
Vienna’s newest IKEA is situated at the Westbahnhof exit, one of Vienna’s main train station that has connections to most of Austria and other nearby countries.
Hotel
The JO&JOE opened on the fifth and sixth floors of the multifunctional and sustainable building Hus, or in the new IKEA location with 345 beds. This is very convenient for transient travellers who are taking the trains at Westbahnhof.
Whole Floor Restaurant
The fourth floor of the building was wholly dedicated to – swedish food! We love IKEA food, and we’ve tried to taste every new offerings somehow.
Roof Deck
The highlight of the Hus is the 7th floor roof deck. It’s also a dining area where you can either bring your food from the 4th floor or have snacks from the kiosks.
